A Marvelous Landscape

Alpes, Alpine Foreland and Chiemsee

The Gasthof Mühlwinkl is located away from the main road in the quaint village of Staudach-Egerndach. Located in a calm place at the foot of the Hochgern (1744 meters above sea level), our hotel is a place to enjoy the lovely natural landscapes of Upper Bavaria and the uniquely beautiful surroundings. In the north, you will find the wide Alpine Foreland with the magical Chiemsee. South of the Mühlwinkl, the gigantic Alps reach for the sky at the border of the valley Achental.

Go on long walks or nice bike tours. Visit lovely towns and cities, such as Munich or Salzburg, and discover wonderful places around the Chiemsee. Leave behind your everyday life for a while and enjoy the magnificent view from the summits onto green valleys and snow-covered Alpine summits.

Hiking

The region around the Chiemse has numerous very popular and beautiful hiking trails and footpaths to offer. Go on a tour of the Staudach-Egerndacher Moor not far from the hotel or hike the new circular route around the marsh in the direction of the Bergwald-Erlebnisweg (translates to “mountain forest experience trail”) close to Marquartstein. The shores of the Ache that flows into the Chiemsee north from our hotel are especially beautiful.

Biking

A bike tour is a wonderful way to really get to know our area. The wide green meadows of the Chiemgau with their comprehensive network of trails invite you to go on long bike tours and hikes. There are numerous routes in the Achental and around the Chiemsee that are just waiting for you to discover their beauty. From relaxed bike tours on e-bikes to sportive mountain bike trekking – the Chiemgau and the Chiemgau Alps offer just the right trails for any taste and skill level, from beginner to pro.

Mountaineering

The Hochgern is 1748 meters tall and home to numerous excellent hiking trails. Start your hike directly at the hotel and experience the lovely natural beauty of the Alpine landscape on a mountain hike for the entire family. While you are ascending up to the Staudacher Alm, you will cross the wooded slopes and discover the beautiful Schnappenkirche (a lovely church) on your way back. The SalzAlpenSteig is a long hiking trail that will take you on a journey back to the times of historic transport routs for salt. The Hochgernspitze is also not far. It offers a marvelous view of the Chiemgau.

Bathing

The cool and clean mountain water in the lakes of the region is always a temptation on hot days. But not only the natural bodies of water are marvelous for swimming. No matter what the season, the thermal baths and adventure pools of the area, such as the Therme Bad Aibling or the Chiemgau Thermen in Bad Endorf, offer a joyful and relaxing experience for visitors.

Sailing

The Chiemsee is also known as the “Bavarian Sea”. Of course, it’s not as adventurous here as it might be out in the open sea. However, the Chiemsee makes up for this with its great beauty – it is one of the most beautiful lakes north of the Alps. It owns its aesthetic allure mostly to its proximity to the norther Alps and special opposites: steep, rugged mountains contrast with soft pastures and lush meadows in the valley. You can enjoy this marvelous landscape every second while you are sailing. The lake itself offers numerous possibilities to rent a boat or to go for a ride on a sailing boat. Local sailing schools offer courses and trainings.

Golf

Winston Churchill reportedly said about golf that it was the nicest way to ruin a stroll. We, however, believe that it is the perfect combination. The landscape of the Chiemgau offers excellent conditions for you to practice your hobby. The guests appreciate the well-kept courses of the area. And what could be nicer than enjoying the wonderful view of the Alps during a game of golf in the Chiemgau. The closest golf course, the Golf Restort Achental, is just 3 kilometers from the hotel.
